Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg being one of only two private hospitals with accredited Level 1 trauma centres in the country.

The hospital's  800-bay parking deck was built to accommodate the increasing number of patients and visitors.

“This project is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the overall patient and visitor experience at our facility,” says Anton Gillis, general manager of Netcare Milpark Hospital.

Parking Guidance Systems are becoming a norm, that even local hospitals are installing them.

• 772  parking bays, over 8 levels
• 7 Numeric displays
• 8 ZoneBuffers
• 1 BlockBuffer
• 16 Power supplies
• Control room

Motivation

The hospital has a critical problem with parking,  as  there is only one road in and very limited parking available.

The multilevel parking will provide almost 800 additional parking bays.

About 150 of those bays will be reserved for staff and doctors.

From 2nd level upwards will be additional parking for visitors once the facility is ready. Doctors who battled to get in on the single road will now have their own access to this parking facility via the bottom entrance ( not available to visitors)

The PGS over and above providing the additional parking space, will further assist the visitor in find a parking bay using the LED’s and the way finding signage per floor. Unfortunately for them the single road /   single point-of entrance to the facility is still a problem, but with more people parked and less queuing on the street, it will be less congested.

The Diamond Parking Guidance System was selected due to its high accuracy and EOH our South African partner is currently busy with the installation.

Conclusion

Parking guidance systems are gaining popularity. Even small suburban sites are installing these systems as they reduce parking time and add value to the property and to the patrons.

Many consultants and architects are acknowledging and recognising  the benefits of Parking Guidance Systems. As a result, more and more systems are designed in to sites at early stages and installed as part of the construction.
